Steadfast & Immovable

Youth Conference went great! I'm so happy that it is Saturday morning, yesterday went on without any problems, and we all had a good time.
We started out the day at the church 7:15 am. We had doughnuts, muffins and juice while we waited for everyone to arrive. We ended up with 13 youth which for our tiny ward was great!
Then we headed up to the Temple Quarry hike (by the airport). Bart Anderson met us there and gave us the history on the Temple Quarry, and Mountain Meadow Massacre. He was great! So much information! I wish we could have had him with us all day long, I could listen to him for hours. He told us of a few stories quarrying the rock, and building the temple of men that should have died by injuries they had, but Brigham Young promised them no one would be seriously injured or killed during the building. It just goes to show when the Lord promises you something, he will always keep that promise.
After the hike we drove up to the Mountain Meadow Massacre site. I had been there before but its always a humbling experience. It's so sad what happened. I am so impressed that the church has had monuments built in memory of those lost, and those who survived, that have actually been dedicated by Prophets, instead of trying to sweep (probably the biggest mistakes made by church members) under the rug. I think thats a great lesson to be learned. We all make mistakes big and small but there is no need to hide from them. Own up to it, learn from it, repent of it, and be a better, wiser person because of it.
We then headed to our camp site in Pine Valley and ate delicious sandwiches! We gave the kids some free time to do whatever then headed to the Pine Valley Chapel. (picture above) It is the oldest, still operating, chapel in the history of the church. The missionaries stationed there gave us a tour. It was so cool! I had never been inside. There were antiques that were brought over and survived the trek out west. We even went up to the very top and were able to look in the rafters to see how it was built like an upside-down ship. It was awesome to see how they got the ceiling to arch like that!
Finally we headed back to the campsite, gave the kids some reflection time and the letters from their parents, while the leaders got ready for the dutch oven dinner. it was amazing! We had 2 kinds of potatoes, regular, and one with bacon, pepperoni, and cheese...so good, chicken, and last but not least cherry cobbler! I had seconds, then thirds. Man, I could live off that stuff!
After cleaning, and packing up we had a testimony meeting. It is always a good experience to hear the testimonies of the youth! What a spiritual experience.
I'm glad we had the opportunity to plan this youth conference so the youth could hear of the early saints and how they had so much faith, and courage. I think everyone benefited from hearing the stories, at least for me it makes me more appreciative to those who paved the way for the church, for the town I live in, so that I live the way I do!
